Where is the line that crosses into excessive opulence? When that line is paid for by the Taxpayers. Who authorized my tax dollars to be used to Jet set Michelle Obama, and 40 of her friends, off to Spain for a lavish holiday?
From the UK WorldNews Online:
Yesterday New York Daily News columnist and blogger Andrea Tantaros likened the President’s wife to French queen Marie Antoinette, who was famously extravagant with her spending.
Tantaros wrote: ‘To be clear, what the Obamas do with their money is one thing; what they do with ours is another. Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who will flank the material girl will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny.’
She accused the Obamas of hypocrisy for preaching the values of sacrifice and austerity to Americans while seemingly refusing to heed their own advice.
She said: ‘Instead, Michelle Obama seems more like a modern-day Marie Antoinette… than an average mother of two.
She added: ‘I don’t begrudge anyone rest and relaxation when they work hard. We all need downtime – the First Family included.
‘It’s the extravagance of Michelle Obama’s trip and glitzy destination contrasted with President Obama’s demonisation of the rich that smacks of hypocrisy and perpetuates a disconnect between the country and its leaders’
Indeed, this is the height of hypocrisy. When Obama gave a speech in Nashua, N.H, he said:
“You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.”
That remark was aimed at bankers and other businesses that were bailed out using tax payer monies. Meaning, that you shouldn’t use tax payer monies on lavish trips to Las Vegas or anything else.
“You can’t take a trip to Las Vegas or down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers’ dime,” Obama said in a remark aimed at bailout-accepting bankers who had been accused of cavorting in Las Vegas as their companies collapsed.
But executives from Las Vegas’ biggest resort companies said the remark scared off business. The banking firm Goldman Sachs bailed out of a Las Vegas event to escape the perception of wasteful spending only to reschedule in San Francisco, a more expensive destination.
The insensitivity and contempt Obama has for American business proves he doesn’t have a clue on how business works in this Country. People in Las Vegas are workers also. They are suffering from the recession worse so, than other parts of the country. Obama would lecture us on how we spend our money, with his overt disdain for Capitalism, and yet, he and his wife, are living off the tax payers dime in ultimate luxury. Vacations to exotic and expensive locations, with an entourage of family, friends, and Secret Service in tow. Lavish parties at the White House, with out of touch Rock Stars, Movie and Television Stars, an exclusive club of elitist Hoi Piloi, thumbing their noses at the American people. Leading by example, like that of a Junta, a Regime, an Autocracy, an Absolute Monarchy.
It’s Good to be the Queen
I don’t begrudge the Obama’s taking vacations. Everyone that works should be entitled to a vacation. However, as a leader of the Greatest Country in the World, you should lead by example, and by your own rhetoric. It’s one thing to vacation as a private citizen, it’s another when that vacation is being paid for with tax payer monies. Especially, during these times of economic recession, where people are losing their jobs, their homes, their businesses, their way of life. George W. Bush was criticized routinely when he went on vacation, and yes, Bush did take a lot of vacations. However, Bush spent much of his vacations at his ranch in Crawford Texas, where he worked the land. Additionally, during the Bush Presidency, there was prosperity, unemployment was low, and tax revenues were up. After the 2004 Mid-term elections, when Democrats took the House and Senate, did the spending by the Congress swing into high gear. Republicans are not without sin on this also. They also get equal blame for causing the recession.
Hypocrisy, is the dish being served when Obama scolds others about their spending, yet Obama seems indifferent when spending others peoples money. There is a disastrous economic tidal wave heading our way. The Bush Tax Cuts are going to expire at the end of the year, which will effect everyone, irregardless if where you are in the tax brackets. Employer’s are in a hiring holding pattern, waiting to see what the Obama Regime will do. Till then, any expansion of business will be on hold. A Zero Sum Gain? Doubtful, more like a pattern of economic decline.
But wait, could there be another blow to the economy heading our way? From Fox News:
Main Street may be about to get its own gigantic bailout. Rumors are running wild from Washington to Wall Street that the Obama administration is about to order government-controlled lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to forgive a portion of the mortgage debt of millions of Americans who owe more than what their homes are worth. An estimated 15 million U.S. mortgages – one in five – are underwater with negative equity of some $800 billion. Recall that on Christmas Eve 2009, the Treasury Department waived a $400 billion limit on financial assistance to Fannie and Freddie, pledging unlimited help. The actual vehicle for the bailout could be the Bush-era Home Affordable Refinance Program, or HARP, a sister program to Obama’s loan modification effort. HARP was just extended through June 30, 2011.
Recall that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were the largest contributors to the Great Recession. They made mortgage loans knowing full well that people were not able to pay them back. The majority of these securities are held by banks with insured deposits. Government run home loan system are covered by the U.S. Treasury.
Who to you think that money belongs to?
What’s For Dinner?
