Leftist Theology In Education

education

Betsy DeVos was sworn in as Secretary of Education with the historic tie breaking vote cast by Vice President Mike Pence.  Many in the democrat party were against Mrs. DeVos nomination because they claimed she has no experience in education and public schools.  Although Mrs. DeVos is a philanthropist in education and is a supporter of charter schools.

Many of Mrs. DeVos detractors have made wild claims against her qualifications, listing her as ‘dangerous’ and unqualified.  Many of these unfounded claims have come from the United Federation of Teachers.  The unions despise Mrs. DeVos because she cannot be bought by the unions.  Unlike politicians which can be bought and paid for by the teachers unions in order to keep their control over schools and the taxpayer monies that pour into the public schools.  It is all about control of the money.

The latest claim is that Mrs. DeVos support for voucher programs will cause children to commit suicide because voucher programs are the equivalent of religious schools.  This is the theology of the leftist thinking that children must be taught to be gender free to choose their sexual preference.  The leftist theology is not interested in providing children with the skills needed to be successful after graduation.  They are only interested in creating a ‘social justice’ experimentation on children.  Balancing a checkbook and budget is not important to the leftist, but encouraging a students gender confusion is more important.

This is the problem in most universities today.  The emphasis on social justice overrules the purpose of a graduate degree.  This has given rise to campus ‘trigger warnings and safe places’.  Where the differences of opinion and the exchange of ideas is strictly prohibited.  Universities have become madrasas of leftist intolerance and political correctness.  At $60,000 tuition per year, the leftist universities have quite a racket in producing graduates with no skills for industry.  Except for maybe the fast food industry working the fry machine.

Programs like ‘No Child Left Behind’ and ‘Common Core’ have been complete failures.  Parents have been desperate to afford an alternative to the public schools.  Private charter schools do offer a difference, and in most cases, are far more successful than public schools.  The reason is choice and local control where the money is spent, and the curriculum subject matter.  Unions and leftist don’t like vouchers and charter schools because teachers are judged on the merits of a child’s success.  Public schools unions have tenured teachers which cannot be removed if they are bad teachers.  There’s no accountability, and therefore no reason to invest in a child’s success.

The union control over public schools needs to be removed if there is any hope for success.  Rules of tenure and political cronyism are blocking the success of public schools.  There needs to be a merit system where good teachers are rewarded and bad teachers are removed.  Unions need to be stopped from using money to gain political influence as obstacles to a good public education.

Secretary DeVos offers a unique opportunity to bring in fresh ideas and to ease the grip of union control over public schools.  To allow choice in schools and affordability.  I wish Secretary DeVos all the success in President Trump’s administration.
