At long last, I have retired! It’s such a surreal feeling because I like working. However, this doesn’t mean I’ll be sitting around the house watching reruns of Judge Judy. Nope, I will be spending more time working my farm. There’s a lot of work to do in this farm, and I have neglected the ‘Aina for too long.
As usual, it was a beautiful day in Hawai’i. We took a drive to the West side of the island to have lunch at Merrimans. It was Okay. Would we go back again? Probably not. The food is mediocre and it’s pricey. There’s no shortages of restaurants on this island. Some eateries really stand out and are exceptional. West Hawai’i is mostly touristy with high end restaurants located at the resorts. While east Hawai’i has a broader range of food ranging from takeout to exceptional. The only thing that’s hard to find in Hawai’i is good Italian food.
Driving north on Queen Ka’ahumanu Hwy, or Route 19, there was a clear view of Maui, the Valley Isle. Haleakala Ku Hanohano in the view. Nestled in low clouds, the island seems to float above the ocean.
The first hurricane is forming west of Mexico and is heading to the central Pacific. Named Barbara, the storm is predicted to be a category 4 before moving into cooler waters and downgrading to a tropical storm. Summer is in full swing and the weather here is always perfect.
That’s it for July 1, 2019. The first day of my retirement. I’ll see you all tomorrow. Aloha!
