Aloha Lāpule. One well-known story of healing in the Gospel of Matthew is the healing of the Centurion’s servant (Matthew 8:5-13). In this account, Gaius the Centurion approaches Jesus, asking him to heal his servant who is paralyzed and suffering terribly. Jesus marvels at the centurion’s faith and heals the servant from a distance, commending the centurion’s faith as greater than any He had found in Israel.
One of my favorite stories from the mini-series “Jesus of Nazareth” (1977). Ernest Borgnine played Gaius the Centurion in this scene where he asked Jesus to heal his servant. This whole mini-series can be watched on the internet.
The Chosen series follows the life of Jesus Christ. The series has become an international hit. The series has been released in many different languages. Angel Studios is a community-supported streaming platform which produces several family orientated movies. Angel Studios has produced some of the best stories that I have seen in years.
This is the scene from “The Chosen” where Jesus heals the Centurian Gaius’ son from Matthew 8:5-13. This is a clip from Season 4 of The Chosen that will come out in May or June of 2024 according to a director Dallas Jenkins. It’s a powerful scene where the Roman soldier comes to Jesus Christ for help. He’s seen the miracles Jesus has performed, and Gaius knows that the word of the Son of Man can heal his servant. I love the way this series is constructed. The acting, the music, and the scenery is so perfectly presented.
The Centurian story leads me to Memorial Day where we honor our soldiers and military service families. It reminds me of Faith, Family, and Fidelity. We memorialize those that made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation. We pray for our soldiers and their families as if Memorial Day is every day. We would not have a nation if not for our soldiers. This goes all the way back to the militias that fought for our independence. Our nation needs a good Commander in Chief to keep our military strong and unified. A leader humble enough to ask for God’s help to guide this nation.
