Romancing the Absolutist

absolutist

The death of Fidel Castro is a blessing to the lovers of freedom, but a heartbreak to the socialist leftists.  It is indeed appalling the hero worship the so called democratic world leaders have adorned a mass murderer and communist dictator. Even in industry, the Cuban flag, pictures of Che Guevara and even Barack Obama is proudly pictured with icons of terror.

These world leaders called Castro a ‘Social Justice Leader’, but he was a dictator that imprisoned his people on a island.  Castro confiscated private property, he seized private industry, and he either murdered or jailed political dissidents.  He was a monster.

The island prison that Castro created was to keep people in, but people were so desperate for freedom that they risked their lives to flee.  They built and used boats to cross shark infested waters to reach the United States.  Many drowned trying to reach freedom.  How could any world leader see Castro as anything but a fascist dictator?  Yet, here was the American President, Barack Obama, mourning the passing of a notorious prison warden.

Although the United States had an embargo against the communist Cuban government that prohibited all business and political contact, other countries did have relations with Cuba.  European, Canadian, Central and South American countries opened trade and tourism with Cuba.  They poured money into the Cuban economy, which was confiscated by the Castro government.  The Castro’s were wealthy while the people were poor.  Cities were crumbling, transportation was in a time warp stuck in the 1950’s.  State run stores frequently ran out of food.  Yet there was this fascination with the world about this mysterious island prison as a vacation mecca.  Because they, the tourists, could leave to return home.  That wasn’t the case for the Cuban people.

Now that Castro is gone, there doesn’t seem there will be any change with the totalitarian regime.  The Cuban people will continue to be held hostage and denied their human rights.  Meanwhile, the world ignores a brutal dictatorship.  Ultimately, this is a greater crime against humanity.
